VMware users are taking a wait-and-see stance on the Broadcom acquisition, keeping their fingers crossed that Broadcom remains committed to investing in innovation.

Broadcom invest quite a bit in R&D, they just don’t spend that R&D money doing stupid projects. This pi---s off engineers that like working on stupid projects that will never bring in a penny but if you care about making money and working on stuff that actually gets used by end customers, Broadcom is great.
It will be different this time. Sumit Dhawan says so. Broadcom want's to keep VMware as low profit and woke as possible.
“Let’s not assume, I would say at this point in time, that just because they have done what they have done with Symantec and CA [Technologies] is something that they intend to do with VMware because we’ve heard quite the opposite so far,” said Dhawan in a recent town hall meeting with VMware employees. “But we’ll get some more certainty over the course of next 60 to 90 days.”

“Wait and see” is a modern example of newspeak from customers on the outside as is “this will be different” is from managers on the inside.
Broadcom and the terms investing and innovation don’t go together.
If people are really taking a wait and see approach, they are fools if they think anything different will happen this time.
