Thread regarding VMware layoffs

It's been nearly a month since the Broadcom announcement

The only thing that's changed so far is the anxiety level of the people I work with. Other than that, everything is the same. Nobody left so far, there was no mass exodus, and there were no mass layoffs pre-acquisition. I'm not saying none of this will happen, I'm just saying that those who started stressing over this a month ago could have gone through the past four weeks without the added stress since it's still so early in the deal. People are their own worst enemies, I swear.

I have 2 interviews lined up. And I started looking the same day as the announcement came down. Anyone who thinks Broadcom is going to do anything different is only fooling themselves. Look at this as an opportunity. The ability to really find a new job you like and know there is a 6-12 month timeline to do so. VMware for what we knew it will no longer exist once this deal goes through. Time to bail while one can.

Note : Only good folks get jobs and leave.

There is plenty of incompetence at most big companies.

If the good folks see the writing on the wall and leave, the remaining concentration of pure incompetence will mean soaring product quality, for sure. Right?

Bull. Broadcom has become heavily engaged in deal approval. Anyone who hoped to close a bunch of long term deals with existing pricing has probably had whiplash from how fast deals are being blocked.

CDTO priorities for delivery of SaaS features for less profitable markets have also been disrupted.

While I absolutely believe this deal is good for shareholders and long term profitability, let's not sugar coat the massive internal upheaval going on in key areas of the business.

There won’t be any mass layoffs prior to close. That will happen once we close. I heard from hood authority that vmw is not planning to do any reductions until Broadcom forces them.

It can take 3 - 6 months to find the right job to move to on the low end. If you are not lucky it could take a year. You might have to interview at 10 - 20 places. You had better start now. Reply to those recruiters and get your interviewing skills up to speed.

People won’t leave until they find another job they like. People will leave eventually once they have found a good option. Some will find early, for others it may take long. Also, I know lots of people are waiting to see what happens in the promotion cycle
