Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Quitting now is pure idiocy

A lot of people are choosing to quit but doing that now is pure idiocy, in my opinion. First of all, O&G is doing great. You should never leave a winning team. Second of all, the compensation here is still better than at plenty of competition. And third of all, a recession is coming. Leaving your job to become the guaranteed first victim of recession-related cuts at your new workplace is, and I repeat myself, idiocy. I'll never understand why so many are choosing to quit right now.

There would only three fingers pointing back at you unless you don't have an opposable thumb.

"Knew" is a spelling error. Calling it a grammar error is a grammar error. When you point at someone there are four fingers pointing back at you.

Personal finances and family situations matter. However, all that aside, do whatever make sense based interests, career growth and opportunities. Never work for money alone if you have a choice. Just do work that makes you happy.

"Never leave a winning team"
OP had Shell management training and was taught to buy high/ sell low. It's easier to find a job when you already have one in hand. It's a lot easier to get a job in this industry when there are high oil prices.

OP, if you're somewhere above team lead level, they're leaving because of you. So who's the id--t?

If you can get out of O&G, do it before your options dry up. Because they will. Then you're stuck.
Remember no raises-no bonuses because of whatever bu-----t excuse BvB gave in a record year?Remember 2% raises because Gretchen wants you to take the hit for inflation? How many unqualified diversity candidates have passed you by? Avoid O&G. Get out if you still can.

You forgot the most important aspect! Do you all have diversity, equity & inclusivity (DIE - white male 😆) or does your knew employer just hire and promote based on merit (how racist and sexist)

I went from making 160k to making 250k at an independent operator and 12% 401K match. They are efficient, we work hard, break even a lot lower. Have never had layoffs (had severance for close to retirement folks) in the company's 50+ year history.

Call me an id--t all you want. But happy with my choice!
