The company buys these awards by paying the awarding organizations donation money. Don’t buy into this BS. They even have paid articles about how much they care about it. The treatment of indigenous communities and it’s own diverse employees is atrocious. Always wondered why enbridge panders to this cause so much. Not because they care. It’s because they have the most to hide.

Well said. 👍
Many corporate awards have a fee. Most of the organizations behind these awards need the fees to administer the awards. Some awards are unethical and go to the highest bidder. Many are merit-based — the company applies and they are judged against other companies and benchmarks. Some are somewhere in the middle. Welcome to capitalism.
The big reason Enbridge is getting diversity awards is because of transparency.
Go to ELink right now and search ‘diversity dashboard’. Every employee can see exactly where the company is in terms of current representation levels, benchmarks and targets. This dashboard was first published in 2017. No other energy company in NA has had this kind of transparency for so long.
Is everything great? No. People who experience discrimination should report it to the Ethics hotline where it will be investigated. There are people in the company whose job is to improve accountability and action. It helps when they have proof a problem exists.
Some of these awards are not saying everything is fine — but they recognize who is making progress.
Enbridge may not have reached agreement with every indigenous group, but they were pretty much above board in everything. Honest doesn't imply they caved on every issue - they fought a difficult set of battles. But they were not deceptive.
Enbridge had honest treatment of the Indigenous communities?? That is a laugh. Union Gas had a great relationship with the Indigenous groups, helped them create companies to be be able to viable bidding companies. They invested in their futures. These indigenous groups did not want to deal with Enbridge because of how they were treated by them. Diversity by Enbridge?? What a laugh.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Enbridge just won the J D Power Award - LOL
You aren't wrong. Basically all - and I mean every last one - of the industry awards available are purchased. This isn't unique to Enbridge. It's all companies across all industries.
However, I object to the characterization of Enbridge's treatment of indigenous communities as "atrocious". In fact, they've engaged more honestly and frequently than any other player in this industry. That's been to their detriment. Where TCP would have walked over everything with Eminent Domain, Enbridge played nice and subsequently lost the war. Don't conflate disagreement with abuse.
Usually companies that have too many diversity awards are a red flag. Enbridge is no exception. Speaking from experience, minorities don’t get ahead in this company. Old boys club through and through. They talk a big game but don’t walk the walk.
Another sham is the "Alberta's Top Employers" list. It's all pay to play with some companies using to rehab their image. Look at the companies on this years list and then read their layoff page. Spoiler alert: We are on the list.
Can I get another dollar?
