Hello, This is a serious question. I heard from someone that used to work at Broadcom that they installed "tracking" software on the phones of all employees to monitor where people are. Not sure if this is a rumor. He seemed to believe it was accurate. You really can't make this stuff up. Why would we sell to someone like this?

This is complete BS
You should see what we collect depending on what you installed on your device...
You mean WS1? lol
I don't install any corporate software on my personal phone... I have 2 words to any employer that would require it, Fu-k off!
COVID tracing! Such concern, what a great company, so caring snd thoughtful. It is so in line with all that I’ve heard that I can’t wait for their warm embrace. Hock Tan must really be a prince, a Nigerian prince.
Don't worry with installing corporate software on your phone. Broadcom is well managed and has the money for their goals. If they need they will supply you a mobile phone.
If you agree on something before using the app, then the employer has the right as per the conditions that no one reads. That being said, Broadcom is very clear on the purpose/policy and has it well documented.
The app is only for covid tracing.
This company is more clear than any other I ever seen, but people don't seem to like others that put the reality in front of their eyes.
or work websites, they can require you to use their VPN client and their email client
and agree to end point management.
You'd be foolish to agree to allow your employer to install software on your phone.
Just don't use YOUR device to access THEIR data. If they require you to use a mobile device, demand they provide it, because you should keep YOUR property separate from THEIR property.
Use corporate devices to access corporate assets. Who cares if they track it. (they do) If you don't like it, don't carry it with you when you're not on the clock. If you have to receive phone calls at all hours, then when you're not on the clock and not at home, forward the number to your personal. But allowing them to install anything on your personal device, that's never been an option for me. I hate carrying two phones but I definitely enjoy keeping things separate.
Badge reports aren’t enough for Broadcom. They need to make sure you are actually in the “actual” office and not just badging in. So glad I will NOT be offered a job by these people. Can’t wait to get my severance package, 18 years of service!
Broadcom gave corporate mobiles and the installed apps to track your location while in office. This was done as a measure for contact tracing during COVID days. They are least bothered about your personal stuff as long as you are at work location during your work hours. I believe employer has that right to monitor you during office hours. It was done in US and India offices to my knowledge and not in Europe offices, thanks to GDPR.
Just say no
Here is the email from VMware IT. Once you install the "Intelligent Hub" on your phone they control your phone and have access to everything including location data to check if you are in the office. Zero Trust means that they have Zero Trust in you.

Hello Colleagues,
You are receiving this e-mail because you have been identified as using one or more unmanaged personal devices to access VMware resources.
Unmanaged means Intelligent Hub is not installed and configured on a mobile device or computer.
On July 12, 2022, VMware will be making changes to how unmanaged personal devices access corporate resources, starting with mobile devices such as phones and tablets, and soon laptops and desktops.
Unmanaged devices will still be able to access:
• Email via the updated Boxer client. For details on the improvements to Boxer see this article.
• Zoom, Slack, Workday, RSA MyPage, Self Service Password Reset and Horizon Virtual Desktops and Applications (VDI).
To have full access to all VMware’s resources, including other email clients, devices will require management by installing Intelligent Hub. Learn how by visiting the Managed Devices and Authentication page on Source.
Access to Commonly Used Applications (after July 12):
Thank you,
The Beyond Zero Trust Team
You better believe that they can monitor your phone. If you want to access corporate data from you phone, such as work email, or work websites, they can require you to use their VPN client and their email client and agree to end point management. VMware has just implemented such a policy. What a coincidence. Check you email from IT if you haven't seen it already. The last two places that I worked did the same thing. Once you are agree to use the VPN they can do what ever they like to your phone including remotely erase it. At a company that I was a few years ago they required you to set up a 4 digit code to open your phone and one time IT sent out a forced password change notice after there was a corporate data breach and people were required to respond within 4 hours. Well guess what? IT was in India and most Americans were asleep when the notice went out. I woke up early at 6am and saw the notice and reset my password. Many other people did not see it or they were sleepy and fumbled the password change and they got their phones erased including all of their personal data and their pictures, contacts and everything and they were locked out of their phones. These were their personal phones too. The only way to avoid this is not to install the corporate VPN or email client so that they can't install end point management. I will only be checking my email from my computer from now on. I won't be installing the VMware VPN or client and I won't be checking email after hours.
Do you believe that your employer has the right to install software on your personal devices?
Can they also tell you what brand of washing machine to own?
