Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I can't be the only one looking forward to working for Broadcom

Broadcom is efficient, there's no fat to weigh us down (they get rid of the right people, unlike so many other companies, including VMware), and top employees are rewarded for their work, so what's there not to like? Be brave and admit that you're lowkey looking forward to it as well.

It’s funny when people are discussing if they want to be with Broadcom or not . 80 % of us will be gone . What are you talking about ?!

Im glad theres been some people who have moved to the Bargaining and Acceptance phases. It means nothing for your job though and you will probably get cut, but nice to see lol

Complicated answer. Basically VMW management will assist in the process, but the final decision on employment will set with Broadcom management. For example, they will cut most of G&A, and may retain a person or two. For example, at CA in one country, the offered 2 G&A people a job out of about 200. The 2 were picked because they were the cheapest people of the bunch. Broadcom cut them 1 year later.

Bottom line: VMW will have somewhat of a say, but not the final decision. At CA, I remember so many people calling the head of HR at the time asking to be put on the list, and from what the rumor mill said, those people were added to the list.

Broadcom gets rid of great talent too.

Isn’t it decicided by VMware management when the time comes?

Just to be clear to the original poster of this message. Broadcom gets rid of great talent too. You are simply a number on a spreadsheet and nothing more. Also / to the person that would stay if they offer you WFH. Good luck - it won’t happen (not long term anyway).

I’m not aware of anyone that wants to work there and people I know that did work there are saying run run run away as fast as you can.

If they keep me on and let me WFH, then I can't wait to join lol Broadcom stock is up 100% over the last 5 yrs and that's with the market meltdown. VMware stock is trash by contrast.

Will be nice to get rid of all the deadwood supporting useless DEI, carbon footprint, and pointless audits for proper gender pronouns on the site. More than half the people I interact with outside the team aren't working on anything that helps drive the bottom line.

What makes you think you’ll be keeping your job though?

It nice to have some humor in the middle of all these posts from people fearing for their jobs and the foundation of their existence. Props for your gallows humor and your ability to just jump head first into a dark ho-e in a cave...

Somehow I get a sneaky suspicion this was not written by someone that works at VMware.
