As soon as the announcement came down of the acquisition I started looking for another job. Hate to be frank but it like the faucet got turned off. It appears many companies have put the brakes on hiring. In two weeks I have put out close to 20 resumes. I heard back from one. Not looking good. Absolute worst time for being acquired. Hopefully it will take a year and maybe the economy will be in better shape. I doubt it.

Companies are flooded by VMware resumes - especially FAANG and related firms in the cloud space. LinkedIn data shows more than 12000 VMware folks have "open for opportunities" turned on. A friend at AWS tells me he has received over 200 connection requests from VMware people in the last month.
So yeah, everyone realizes that we are rats trying to get off of a sinking ship. And they are taking their time, trying to skim the best from the top.
I get about two unsolicited requests to interview every week on Linkedin.
20 resumes in 2 weeks?
I'm not unemployable by any means, I'm currently employed and always have been. But in todays world, try multiplying that number by 10 before being confused about no response
What job market are you talking about? As a senior level engineer it’s looking pretty rosey out there to me
I was actually serious, though with a bit of tongue in cheek. Take this time to also reassess what you want to be doing as well. It will not be the end of the world, and maybe you reflect on where you are now, and decide you do just want to live on the beach, or get together with colleagues and create a startup. Only you can ultimately decide your future.
You have VMware on your resumes. That’s not a bad position to be in. Everybody in the IT industry uses VMware and it’s a liked and respected brand.
I work at Broadcom from the CA acquisition and since they are rebranding all of a Broadcom’s existing software assets under the umbrella of VMware’s branding. That should tell you a lot.
You’ll be fine. When you do interviews play up the fact that you’re an ex-VMware refugee and I bet that will go a longer way in getting hired.
Time to do that startup, retire early, or sell your house, move to a cheap desert island, and sell shell necklaces to tourists!
