Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Such statements worry me

It's not the first time I heard that companies avoid hiring those who have worked at CVS for a long time. Someone's written it here too. Is that really true? I've been looking for a job for a few months now and statements that CVS doesn't look good on resume worry me a little.

So true, when I am approached by a CVS manager looking to start with us (Grocery Store) I basically laugh in their face . Your stores are filthy and empty and you manage 2 or 3 employees . No nothing about merchandising or any dept within the store . You guys stay where you are , at CVS . You can’t work elsewhere due to lack of skill set .
Please stop complaining!

Unfortunately, I agree 100%. Look at grocery chains. I know a few SM's that left for big box grocery stores that matched their salaries.

why would you need a degree to work in a store at CVS? You don't even need to know how to add or subtract anymore.

You’re not wrong. The word is out that CVS is a horrible company to work for and that retention is a problem due to poor training and investment in people. As a result their reputation is that promotions are not earned on merit, experience, or qualifications, but simply the need to fill needs. Just look at the district leader and district asset protection leader positions. Years ago you needed a college degree, in-depth training, and to work your way from low volume to the highest volume in a region to earn these positions. In my district someone running a $55,000 a week store, no college, worked their way up from cashier to store manager in a 10 year period. They became a district leader. I promise you they were not qualified and but year later are mediocre and best.

The companies failure to invest in people force them to hire or promote people out of need. This has diminished any prestige The position of district leader held. If you’re talking store manager, forget about it. It’s even worse. We are a joke to the rest of retail world. A store manager in a mid volume CVS is barely equivalent to a department manager in Target or Walmart. If you were a high-volume store manager you are barely an executive team leader at Target. Tough times to be a manager in the retail world. Even tougher to be a CVS manager. You might have some luck in specialty retailers who are growing such as party city, Harbor freight, Trader Joe’s, etc.
