I ask purely out of curiosity, did you ever start thinking that those who got laid off after the Broadcom acquisition ended up better off in the end?

The stock is worth the pain but only if you are close to retirement. If you aren’t you should run not walk.
The Broadcom Severance is 2 weeks base pay per completed year of service, capped out at 40 weeks. If you are fired within the first year after the close, they will follow the VMW plan (whatever that is). I was laid off after 2 years, so was no longer under the CA severance plan, but defaulted to the Broadcom one, which didn’t make a difference for me as I had 20 years of service and would’ve received 40 weeks under Broadcom or CA, so it was OK for me.
ElsaS, what is the current severance package? This is a apparently a tight lipped secret that even managers do not know. CA use to list it in the handbook. Broadcom doesn't even mention it.
Yes regretted every moment of staying at Broadcom. I wish I was laid off when the acquisition closed. Broadcom is a hard place to work because it is like working for a company in the 1980’s. The last straw was forcing us into an office during a global pandemic. Being in the office didn’t make any of us more productive. I hated every minute of being there, but I didn’t quit, they laid me off. I had a better job within 2 months and received a severance package. Walk, don’t run from this company.
I was let go before CA was bought by Broadcom. I was 50+ and thought my career in IT was over. That was not the case. I was able to get another job within a month of letting me go for less money. However, after 3 years I was making more money than I did at CA working for the new company that hired me. The company I went to did not have the micro-management as CA. I was not losing more and benefits every year and they have WFH. With the severance CA paid out to me felt like a little lottery windfall for me. Job market is still very very good. I still have friends at Broadcom. They hate their lives. All they look at is the money and embrace the suck.
