Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Not Acceptable!

Boeing hasn't been tending to their knitting for a long time, and the chickens are coming home to roost.  It used to be "Over budget, and they yell at you - Bust a schedule and you get fired."  Now, busting schedule is de rigueur.  Accepted.  Failure is accepted.  It permeates their language and their mindset.  Now, we don't even provide a schedule.  We don't want to get nailed down by the media, and our customers.  We talk in nebulosity's - in terms of "assessments", and vague dates given in calendar quarters - even years!  "We deeply regret the impact these delays will have on our customers,....."  We are unable to manage our programs.

This Bogash blog was in 2008 and it focused on the many years of 787 development schedule delays that caused it to ultimately be a project with no possible positive profit breakeven sales quantity. And things have only gotten worse for the 787 as Boeing hasn't been able to deliver any for going on two years now because of poor manufacturing and is spending a fortune trying to remedy this. And of course there has since been the failed 737Max, 777X, USAF Tanker, Air Force One, and Starliner projects...and now very high debt and total lack of competent engineers and engineering management for foreseeable future to allow development of any new products that might have been competitive in the future. Airbus, COMAC and SpaceX are the benefactors of Boeing's gross incompetence.

But the whole point of this now 14 year old blog was that Boeing management was incompetent and the company would ultimately be doomed as a consequence of this. So it was an amazing and accurate prediction at the time.

The interesting thing about the Bogash blog most of his criticism is aimed at how the 787 program was handled. The 787 is a shining star compared to the literal disaster the 737 max was.
