I went to one of my local Macys stores today. It’s a former Famous Barr and fairly large and outdated. Anyway, I noticed that the furniture gallery was under construction and they had moved all the furniture out to the other areas of the store. The employees were working on something. It makes me think that they are just getting rid of the space altogether. They seem to be condensing the merchandise to lesson floor space. Is this something that’s happening throughout majority of the fleet?

Mostly what I’ve seen recently is they moved a department to setup Fulfillment in that area. 2 of my sites are doing that now I am a third party support Vendor. If a site clears space without placing something else there then yeah something is up. I don’t get much info from them but at least they mentioned Fulfillment expansion
fulfillment it will happen in my store soon.
They could be putting in either a Backstage or (more likely) enlarging the fulfillment space which they did to a bunch of stores already.
Whenever a store has a reduction in selling space that is a bad sign.
