Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Intel's worst quarter since 1999

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/29/intel-stock-slumps-11percent-after-poor-earnings-concern-wall-street.html

"Intel’s revenue declined 22% year over year and missed consensus by 14%, the company’s largest top-line disappointment since 1999, according to Refinitiv data."

Pat Gelsinger does it again, if he wasn't hobnobbing in DC, and showboating on every possible TV network, maybe he'd have time to fix Intel. Instead Lisa Su at AMD and Jensen Huang at Nvidia are thoroughly beating him in the market. They are not publicity craving CEOs, super humble, and their execution speak for itself.

Pat created many of our problems at VMware, now he's doing it at Intel too.

Give the man some time. Intel is undergoing a massive transition
and you can't expect such a massive company to get turned around
in the short time that Pat has been there.

Pat was at Intel for 30 years before he came to VMware. Many of their problems, eg Intel's terrible position in GPUs, were Pat's creation. People think he is some messiah of Intel, and the problems were all created by the previous 2 CEOs. Pat created many of the problems when he was at Intel. He left for VMware and created problems there, eg VCloudAir. Now he is back at Intel, more interested in his fame in DC with the Chips Act, than beating AMD and Nvidia. A few more bad quarters and he'll be gone from Intel.

Pat no longer has Uncle Joe Tucci behind him to support whatever whacky shenanigans he did to make everybody think VMware was on the bleeding edge. He also represents a large part of what the tech industry really is - hucksters and shilling used car salespeople who can fool the street, press, and employees into thinking they are titans of industry. Oh, and they'll also, "...change the world (!!!)". 😂😂😂

Intel is a different kind of beast - they have been sitting on a bloated plateau of hubris-driven company management since before Pat. I can only imagine how overwhelming the schematics of an X86 processor are...they probably have a HUGE wad of instructions in the chip that nobody every uses or even knows about.

Apple has left them and ARM is suddenly in play. The best Intel can hope for is they still are beholden to public cloud providers who are still buying their stuff, but even that might dry up as they take on ARM to lower power costs and boost processing efficiency.

For that, VMware's smart NIC with an ARM hypervisor may sho some value - as long as they don't put anything from NSX or any of their others current networking products on it...they aren't very good.
