Thread regarding CDK Global Inc. layoffs

Very few of them are sincere

I haven't felt more anxious in a long time because I'm really worried about being a target.
I was in a dilemma whether to ask the manager how likely it is that I'll be a layoff target, but I changed my mind because can you really expect an honest answer from them to such a question?

In 2018 my entire management structure was laid off - my manager, the director, sr directors and VPs. I was spared for another 3 years. There is life after CDK. And you can make as much or close to as much as you made there If you're someone who was hired before 2015. After 2015 most people except maybe software engineers were getting paid peanuts.

Consider the butcher's return as a fair warning. You now have time to get your resume together and start looking.

Manager Guy here. The answer is, we don't know, and we won't know until our director pulls us into a meeting and demands a list from each of us of x number of people, which gets sent to HR.

What you can do is to tell your manager and your teammates to stuff the f--k out of Pathfinder or Jira with tix showing work being done so that your manager can justify keeping everyone on his team. He can point to it and tell his director "you can pick in writing which deliverables won't get done if I have to lay off anyone in my team."

Dont put in fake tix, but document the h--l out of your work and deliverables so your manager can show that you and your team is important.

Update your resume and start looking. Use CDK's free training to skill-up in the hot technologies and for practice. Nobody is safe, not even managers.

Your own manager could be laid off and he doesn’t know if he will be or not I heard it goes way beyond them, just be prepared

In 2018, under this regime, Managers had no insight or say on who was laid off. They probably couldn’t provide insight.

Your best investment is in yourself. Stay ready so that if/when you do fall victim to layoffs, you will be ready to move on to your next job

No it won’t completely shield you but it’s the only part you have some control over.

Try to think of it more like front row seats to a 3 ringed circus!! I agree there's nothing we can do, so enjoy the show!

Don’t think the ranking will completely shield you from being axed. Important thing to remember is to work harder for yourself than for the company

No you can’t expect them to risk their position to tell you that. Don’t stress about it because it’s out of your control. Only thing you can do is make sure you are giving 100% so you are not at the bottom of the forced ranking in your group.
