Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

We need to get back to the basics

If they truly want to fix this and turn it around they are going to have to put money back into payroll and give the stores back some control. Let stores get back on track with merchandising and inventory and customer service. Go back to thebasics. That may turn this around. Not a bunch of rewards and lengthy check out and continuous aisle changing or constant zip line tasks. We know what to do. Give us back the ability to do it.

It is as simple as this. Yes, sometimes changes are necessary but sometimes it also is necessary to recognize what works and make sure to keep doing that same thing. When you try to fix something that isn't broken, you end up breaking it. And that's exactly what happened here.

"...if we do help customers we get lectured on how freight isn’t being worked."

this is one of those where it all falls on what kind of a store manager you have. at our huddle just this morning, our new store manager said the opposite; that freight doesn't matter if we don't have any customers in the building, so drive engagement. granted we don't have any staff to engage the customers, but still, lol

Well everyone is dropping like flies ( quitting) they will and already are. There’s nobody to help customers on the sales floor and if we do help customers we get lectured on how freight isn’t being worked. How can a store manager make that decision to prioritize freight and not customers is beyond me. Isn’t that what the whole concept is in retail helping the customer making a sale and add ons
Helping customers on the sales floor was a concept that set’s us apart from other big box stores uniqueness personalized shopping drive sales
We are now just like any other big box store

Empty shelves and overpriced Chinese junk will be the cause of the door closing permanently. The business is too far down the rabbit ho-e to be pulled back out.

i don't see any signs that look like we're getting back to anything. our inventory on things people want is still empty, meanwhile we're getting halloween, thanksgiving, and christmas decorations already. they're pushing welcome rewards signups, even though it's confusing and complicated for customers; but if you don't get enough sign ups, it must be on the store, right? oh, how about this signup contest stores are having right now? but if they scan the QR code that's posted all over the store it doesn't count for some reason. still focused on the meaningless conversion numbers, but if you do an online order because your store has no inventory, it doesn't count towards your conversion, regardless of the fact that you helped the customer despite not having inventory and got a sale for the company. at least when ST was ousted the company was skating by, MT left the interim CEO and whoever comes next with a half sunk titanic and no money to fix it.

Adding payroll will do nothing for bbb at this point. Having more associates won’t increase foot traffic or help bbb’s liquidity sooooo the shelves will still be bare and the stores will still have horrific foot traffic. Next idea please……

Bed Bath will die with its aging customer base. It’s just a meme store at this point for us millennials. As soon as they tried being “hip” and “with the times” they tanked hard. Glad I left years ago but feel bad for the friends who are still there struggling. Even as a business owner my life is less stressful than it was managing(babysitting) at BBB. Everyone thought ST was bad after 20 years of relative success. MT tanked in what 3 years. Corporate is broken and out of touch. Stores are under stocked, undertrained and understaffed according to people I still talk to. They laid off most of the talent over the years and never replaced them. It will be sad to see BBB go but you reap what you sow in the end.

Sounds great and all but it is entirely too late at this point to be turned around.

It's obvious to most of us but none of this will be implemented. It's all about ego and greed at this point. I'm so over it and looking for a new job.

I can remember when I used to come here looking to commiserate with others in the same boat. Now I come thinking I'll learn something new but nope. Things remain the same in the company and only getting worse.
