Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Time Marches on…

After reading several misguided responses that somehow twisted the Hybrid / remote work discussion into an attack on “Boomers”; I have several comments.
Boomers built the Company you work for.
The knowledge AND experiences, (both good and bad), have resulted in years of an industry leading Safety program and Safe operation of the largest pipeline transportation Company in North America. Your eagerness to get rid of all those Boomers, without transferring that knowledge, WILL result in a repeat of mistakes that will happen under YOUR watch.
Be prepared to RETIRE by 60. Time Marches On and sooner than you think, the next generation WILL rail against you to remove you as the Company Dinosaur!
Not all “Boomers” are technically challenged. Many have adapted successfully to changes in software, hardware, and remote work locations. Don’t break your arm, trying to pat yourself on the back for being soo much better than those perceived Antique co-workers.

Maybe a bit of humility and some willingness to learn from and pick up the torch from your predecessors, (rather than using it in an effort to burn them down) would preserve your place in the Company and build your career in whatever / wherever your endeavors take you in the future.

Industry leading safety program? No.

Enbridge doesn't even understand the concept of a Permit to Work. They also install non safety people in leadership positions that don't even have the slightest clue on safety theory.

Does Enbridge know how to manipulate stats? Yes.

"You hillbilly"

In your rush to be pedantic you ignored or failed to realized they were deliberately being colloquial. You should face said, "well done. I see what you did there."

Did they ever get the Oracle ERP up and running?

"Does anyone else laugh when boomers act like the entire company (and world!) would literally collapse without them around?"

You think that's a boomer problem? Good lord - it's far more prevalent in people 20-35. For the record, I'm neither. Gen-X all the way.

Aren’t most of the Sr. Exec team actually Gen X?

I can verify that the focus on safety standards in the Legacy Union area have greatly diminished.
"Contractors" are rarely meeting the required response times to emergency calls. Customers are often calling in panicking, asking where is your technician?
Meanwhile, their status online is arrived.
They're definitely not being truthful about compliance metrics. It's just a matter of time before something goes very wrong.

Boomer then proceeds to play victim and list grievances and perceived injustices against him and others in that age category.

You remind me of my senile out-of-touch 70-year-old father who rants and raves like a loon, hates poor people, and worships the UCP.

I love how OP probably expected this post to go over well..

Like "hah this will show those young whipper snappers how much they need us"

Every younger generation has figured out that boomers burned all the bridges after they left town.

Boomers collectively destroyed our future, and you expect us to fu----g look up to you!? Gtfo of here

Oh boy, so much to unpack here. You are looking at the situation through rose colored glasses.

You are staring at a house fire, claiming that its okay because we can bring marshmallows and maybe learn a thing or two from the fire fighters.

Sh--s on fire yo. Oil and gas is dying. ENB is actively dying. The opportunity for this knowledge transfer you speak of has come and gone. Its been replaced by racism, bullying and narcissism.

Everyone is in it for themselves, from the exec all the way down. Don't expect any empathy from the younger generations, as they've woken up to the fact that boomers poisoned the well and will be laughing their way out the door.

Sure, not all boomers contributed to the exploitive shithole capitalism has become, but a huge percentage of them did.

And don't even bu-----t me about safety. If ENB truly cared about safety they wouldn't sub contract out every task at every chance. Keeping work in house allows for more accountability and standardization for safety. They do the bare minimum for safety as to not get shut down or to lose investor confidence. If you think they do more for safety than what is the minimum requirement, you're dilousional.

Another insecure, likely incompetent, bragger from asset performance.

No offense to boomers, but Enbridge already had the asset Performance group. As far as knowledge goes, we are loaded up to the point it would make a baked potato jealous. 50 plus years of boomer contribution has been surpassed and improved on by AP in the last few years alone with our financial expertise and innovations on making the pipelines operate in ways ordinary people never could. we are the brains of Enbridge, fully equipped high functioning brains and lack of knowledge is not the concern here
