VMware employee here. Am wondering what the first year after the acquisition was like for those who stayed?
Were promotions halted? Were benefits the same or did they change?
I imagine there was uncertainty and people leaving and layoff rings. What else and also what was it like to survive through all that?
A year later 70% of CA was gone and most on the path to promotion were screwed over. Since then then ESD gets sold off in pieces and more cuts while MSD execs keep hiring their former IBM buddies who also somehow get WFH.
Broadcom is like an Aircraft Graveyard. Whenever a plane is sent to a graveyard to die, it is fully functional and slowly the parts are ripped apart and sold individually for a profit. Over a period of time, once all the parts are gone and nothing to sell, it is left to rust or thrown away.
Same happens here with individuals, there is no career, innovation etc. Its just use and throw. You gracefully rust over a period of time. So if you are not at an retiring age, then don't even think about coming here. There are far more better companies to work for.
Everything there is to be said has been said. From a reputation standpoint, staying here won’t help your career inside or outside the company. Make the decision that is right for you based on your age, location, skill set, career goals, etc. but I would not recommend bcom as a place anyone with basic talent would want to invest their time.
Survival is tough. A couple things though. If you don’t mind going to an office every day for at least 8 hours, that was the biggest adjustment.
As the other poster said, career development doesn’t really exist. Turnover is high, with people quitting on their own or being fired. Difficult to get jobs filled when people vacate.
Depending on your career aspirations; this place may not be terrible for you, if you can do as your told and nothing more. Low expectations will be met.
It is awful. You are just a number and nothing more here. They really don’t care about employees and they never say they do. HR is non-existent. Leadership is rewarded for cutting people. It is an awful environment all around. CA had its challenges, but looks like the perfect employer now. This place is all about back-stabbing and you are always at risk of being cut. They’ve cut at least 80% of the company and still cutting. Believe everything you hear about this company. The only good thing is the equity and even that isn’t that great (but is better than it was at CA). Run as far away from this place as possible. If I wasn’t of a certain age, I would be gone and most likely will be fired in the next round of layoffs.
