Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Legit Question

I was acquired by Microsoft a few years before starting here. When the acquisition was announced (it took almost 1 year to close), we were told almost immediately (in the first month or at max second month) from Microsoft that they intended to keep almost all of the employees (with the exception of payroll, benefits and investor relations). They said that they acquired the company because of the people.

In our current case with Broadcom, they haven’t said they would retain us and never made any positive comments publicly around employees. I recall a post on here from someone saying that they never will lie to us, but we should read between the lines.

I am practical and possibly looking to do something else out of the industry, but what should we or shouldn’t we make of all this noise from Ragu (spelled that way on purpose).

Hoping for better days ahead for everyone.

I choose option #3. I hear you loud and clear on motivation. Trust is important to me too. The lies coupled with exceedingly toxic behavior is out of control. Even VPs are misbehaving. The entire thing was managed with poor class. Broadcom would be stupid keep anything close to today's culture.

I got through multiple acquisitions and every single time the ‘outgoing’ director promised that nothing changes and in some of them the buyer stated they are after the people rather than just customer base. Every single time the company that got taken over eventually disappeared alongside their staff.

Bcom already makes big changes. In fact I hear from AEs that a lot of deals are being blocked by Bcom already as just like before, they want to concentrate on the big fish. For them it makes more sense to deal with say, 300 big ones rather than 1000 small ones.

At the end of the day, legally and strategically VMware execs will not tell us little folk what is happening. People like Ragu will have a severance of at least $50m with people like Betzy probably easily hitting $10m or so.

They have their own and shareholders interest in mind only which is why employees aren’t mentioned in any of the discussions.

I mentioned that before here. One defining moment for me was when K!t said that the acquisition is just a rumour and the very next day it was announced and we both know that execs like him must know this MONTHS earlier that this is happening.

My point is, VMware lost my trust the moment they came up with BS. At the end of the day. If you cannot talk about it, or don’t want to, say so. And don’t patronize me by telling nonsense.

Like saying on internal slack that Bcom doesn’t affect current deals yet we get emails stating that they do costing us commission.

Obviously I am leaving VMware now as I don’t like dishonest executives and I prefer to define my own future.

And that is pretty much what it comes down to. NO ONE will be able to tell you what happens until it happens. No matter how often Betzy and Ragu show up on some campus videos and tell people how we have to push on, it won’t change the fact that you essentially have only a few options and it is up to you decide what to do. Only you.

  1. Stay put and hope for severance.
  2. Stay put and hope you keep ‘a’ job.
  3. Leave

You determine your future. You alone.

My decision to leave was easy. As I said, trust is an issue. But also bad experience. More so, I am getting paid to do a job but I got 0 motivation and I don’t feel great for doing fudge all and getting paid for it.

So in Sharks Tank style ‘I am out’
