Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Layoffs 2018

I was laid off in 2018 and it caught me by surprise. I was told we were going to be hiring more soon and needed to request more H1Bs due to a shortage of engineers…. A month later over 1500 employees were let go… 3 months later all the refs went up to replace who was fired at a cheaper rate…. It’s a brutal business

Of the four companies I have worked for Qualcomm was definitely the worst. And it wasn’t because of Irwin it was those who followed.

I wouldn’t call it whining. I would call it passing information. If you are unhappy - life is too short to stay…. Just leave and explore other options. Qualcomm will drop you once you are no longer needed or just too expensive

Then what? Stop whining and move on. Q is just a company and Q's job is just a job.

I was let go a while ago from Qualcomm while I was on H1B visa. I saw first hand how this type of visa is abused within Qualcomm. It is not about low pay, it is all about so much power given to the managers over the fate of the H1B person. The H1B holder is under the mercy of their managers/leads and has to please them all the time, otherwise...
I was rebellion and refused to act like a slave, so I was let go at the first chance. It was difficult transferring the visa but I got everything sorted out eventually. It made me see the ugly faces of some people I thought they were good people. Qualcomm is one of the top companies in the US that abuse this visa. This has to stop.
