Thread regarding VMware layoffs

RedHat is doing better than VMware

IBM announced in their earnings today that RedHat is growing 17%. VMware last quarter was pitiful, only 3% growth. OpenShift must be ki----g Tanzu in the market. VMware should never have acquired Pivotal, it sunk the company with bloated costs.

It was no one product. It was the bloated mess that is VMW. No guiding vision anymore on the tech side. Our execs suffer from "Keyword-itis" and "Shiny new thing syndrome" and fail to drive execution in the teams.

Tech debt out the bu-t. Teams within BUs that dont cross collaborate (and PMs that are not motivated to do so since their bonus is ONLY based on their product). Cr---y bug ridden software that is rolled out constantly. Over promising on new features and products that never get delivered. And a management that wets its pants over things Like our PODs and OKRs, but cant simply and artfully articulate a vision for the company without A: buzzwords and B: the ability to actually deliver promised solutions.

This is a leadership problem.

Tanzu is a joke. I was naive and accepted a job there before the acquisition. It truly is a dumpster fire.

More like Pivotal should have never been created in the first place, blame Paul Maritz and Joe Tucci. That said, VMware wasn’t sunk by Tanzu/Pivotal imho, just bad management letting the company get bloated though inertia and too many bad acquisitions outside of Pivotal.
