Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Should anyone take a job at VMW right now?

I am an outsider, I work in a much smaller company, I don't have much work experience and the offer I received at VMW is quite tempting.
However, everyone tells me that given the circumstances, I should avoid this company at present time. What is your opinion?

Considering an offer with VMware nsx right now. Great offer and better experience because what will take me 12 months to earn with my current employer, I will earn in 7 months there. A layoff won’t impact me the same as someone who has been living outside of their means working at VMware, since I now have a surplus w the same budget. Each situation is different.

Up to you. You've provided no details on what VMW BU, ur skills, role, whether you've got a spouse bringing in coin, your expenses, blah blah blah.

VMW will be surgically pulled apart. some pieces sold, others retained. generally if you're going to an old part of the business whose products are sticky with customers with high switching costs... that's good cause they'll likely invest in that unit if it shows promise. if not, bye bye....

Think of it as flipping a coin.

Why not? You might not get cut at the first round and might stay forever at Broadcom. There is no such thing to cut new hire. Many of new hires in my BU are still there after over 5 years

“I've heard Hock will cut anyone who has been here less than 6 to 12 months automatically.”
Did you hear this from a random troll here, a coworker, or a legitimate source?

I just accepted a position at VMware. I’m not worried. Though I won’t be making any big purchases while with the company and will just be stockpiling my cash in case everyone is right and I get laid off. But I like the offer, like the role, and I get to build experience. It’s a win/win in my book.

If you can leverage a job at VMware, to advance your career, or provide you new experience and skillset, plus increase your base pay....then maybe consider it. But anyone taking a job here now should expect to be laid off. I've heard Hock will cut anyone who has been here less than 6 to 12 months automatically.

What BU? If the pay is more than 70% increase of your current salary, take it and plan very very carefully over the next few months, both financially and career wise. You’ll have at least 6-8 months at vmw making way more money with a more reputable brand.
