I worry because a lot of companies assume that those who were laid off are not among the strongest performers. It's not fair and in so many cases it's certainly not true but the stigma is there. Being laid off can cost me future employment or I can be lowballed because they'll think I'll accept anything just to be working again. Stop treating everybody who feels this way like an id--t because there are good reasons to be worried.

Then go find a job , before you get laid off . Take more control of the situation.
Get a offer first before everyone else starts looking ..
A corporation's charter is to maximize profits, period. Not to provide steady employment. That's the way of the world. Combining two companies is going to result in a lot of firings, guaranteed. Hey, even the two CEOs are losing their jobs (although they'll both be just fine.) If your job or my job can be absorbed by someone else, especially someone cheaper, then there's nothing to do about it.
I wouldn't worry about being stigmatized. This happens so often in tech that everyone knows someone who's been laid off as part of a takeover.
This is not true with mass layoffs due to the company going private. When a company does a cost cutting like the one we expect in Citrix entire departments are removed and the most expensive employees are replaced with employees in cheaper locations.
