It has been 2 years since my last 10 day work furlough at HP.
I am a CW and since 2018 there have been yearly work furloughs. Most of them are 10 days per quarter, either once or twice a year.
This time I got a one week notice of the first work furlough this year. Normally I get a month to 6 weeks heads up.
It was nice not to lose 10-20 days a year of pay.
Next one in September for another 10 days.
I was a CW in 2005-2007 for the 2 year assignment. I was treated like an underpaid second class person.
Fast forward to 2018 when I lost my job of 6 years in another industry. I was offered another CW job at HP. I was reluctant because of my past treatment there. I took the job. The pay is great and I negotiate a pay raise each year and get it. I am treated as part of a team rather than just another CW. It all depends on the group you are hired into. Some treat CW's as cr-p and others treat CW's as highly valued employees. I am so lucky I fell into the right group this time.
Contractors get treated like cr-p at HP and even worse at HPE. I am interviewing for jobs right now and I hope to have something else before the furlough is over.
"What is a CW?" From someone who obviously does not work at HP. Otherwise they would know.
