Thread regarding VMware layoffs

What is your exit plan?

I have a colleague who, in my opinion, made a mistake by accepting a lower paying job, just to get out of here as soon as possible. On the other hand, I'm not at all sure if it's wise to wait a long time and be too picky.

I would do the same, in-fact I am in the midst of interview frenzy. Plan is to get a job and relax, rather than listen to Raghu's BS about fiduciary duty.

It’s hard to put a price on happiness and stress. If you do end up making it over to Broadcom and don’t get cut, then you have the weekly/monthly ongoing stress of being part of the additional cuts.

Can't put a price on piece of mind

It depends on who low the offer was? I am OK taking a 10% pay cut to work for an employer that doesn't force me to come to the office on a daily basis. I am prepared to take a 10% pay cut to help further my career. I am not OK staying with a company that really doesn't value employees (for example, when I heard they made people go to the office at the height of the pandemic, that is not good).

At this point, I would rather have something "more secure" realizing nothing is truly secure, at a small pay cut, then to stay around for a full year of negativity and uncertainty. If you work hard, the money will follow at some point, either here or there, but I am ready to leap the moment something better comes along.
