Thread regarding Guaranteed Rate layoffs

Layoffs are still happening

Don't think you're safe just because the last substantial round missed you. They've been laying off people consistently since the start of the year and I don't see it stopping any time soon. I don't think that any one of us can consider himself or herself safe at this point.

I worked for GR for over 2 years. I was on maternity leave for 8 weeks and was laid off within a week of returning. I was told I’d receive 2 week’s severance pay but have no idea when it would be paid. The paperwork clearly states it wouldn’t be paid out with my final check.

I guess I don’t really consider it a layoff if you’re getting a severance pay and you don’t have a return to work date. But the “layoff”was a zoom type call that just basically said your department no longer exists and your job has been terminated. Log out, you will get more info in your personal email. Not one supervisor reached out.

No, a slim job board, as you call it, is just an indication of what's going on in the market. And I know a few that have been laid off at GR, they had no issues with the way it was handled. It helps if we all remember that it's a business decision and nothing personal. I have been thru a downsizing a long time ago and it's upsetting, emotionally draining, you can make yourself feel worthless, but those that can get thru it and come out the other side will be better for it. Everything happens for a reason and I've learned that many times over whether it's not getting the job you so hoped for, or a relationship or anything else in our lives. You just have to trust that it is for the better. And I am not currently a manager, I just have the experience. I can say, and not trying to throw this in anyone's face, but this is the first company I have ever worked where we have such supportive managers! If you have ever been in underwriting and you dread the thought of asking a question because the first thing anyone ever says is 'have you looked in the guides?' every single time you need to ask a question. Those that have been there know exactly what I'm talking about. Well not at GRI. I have never been in a more supportive environment with such great managers. You are never made to feel less than, just because you don't remember a specific guide for a particular investor and have tried your best to find it on your own. I don't particularly care for the lack of transparency at GR, but there aren't many companies out there that are. No Pollyanna here, just realistic and while I still have a job, just want to be a cheerleader for those still looking. Never give up! Even if you've sent out 500 resumes and had 2 interviews, it may be that very next resume you send out or the next time your phone rings, months after the interview, it may just be the offer you've been needing. Again I speak from experience. So everyone who may feel at the end of your rope, hang in there!! It gets better!

I’ve never worked anywhere that fired people in such a terrible way.

Yeah, I don't work at GR but their job board seemed either super slim or non-existent the other day when I checked it.

A slim job board is usually a red flag that something is wrong.
