I admit I'm among those who's started stressing over this. I've been here for nearly twenty years and while we've had layoffs before, this time it seems different. I might be wrong about this, but something big seems to be brewing and I'm not sure that anybody is truly safe at this point.

If you are 55+ and have been at Microsoft for 15 years, your keep your RSU vesting schedule whether you quit or are laid off. Otherwise, you vesting ends on your last day of employment.
If you’re laid off do you get to keep vesting rsu at Microsoft?
I'm going to assume the OP is talking about the overall situation in tech and the coming recession. I don't think there has been any talk about Microsoft layoffs yet.
