I have been here for twelve years. It pains me to think that I'll most likely be shown the door with one week of pay for each year I spent here. I'd consider that disrespectful, in the least. I did so much for this company over the years. I showed up when nobody else did to make sure things get done. I've been doing two, sometimes three jobs at once. I never took a sick day. I truly hope they'll consider things like that when determining our packages.

Your dedication to VMware, no matter how thankless of an experience, is not wasted. Keep giving. The returns will come back to you either from VMware, Broadcom or somewhere else. Why this dejection about severance. Arise, awake and look forward to the future.
dude, the company considers you a budget line item on a spreadsheet...nothing more. Don't break your head for a business. If you want to go above and beyond in your life do that for your friends and family who will stand by you, not the company you work for who will kick you to the curb in a new york minute when it's not convenient to them.
This sounds like a post from a younger person who doesn’t fully get how the business world works. Business is not family. It’s not friends. They don’t owe you anything and you don’t owe them anything. If you worked the jobs of 2-3 people while getting paid for 1, that was d-mb. You let them take advantage of you. Stop doing that. Go to work. Get paid for the work you do. End of discussion.
If your thought process is “they should give me special consideration because I think I am a good employee” you will definitely be let go because it means you are clueless about how businesses work and have no value to the company going forward. Severance is set for employees period, they can’t modify it by saying “wait, this person came in when others didn’t so lets double their severance”. Think for 2 seconds about the legal ramifications.
VMware severance used to be 1 month per year of service but now is 2 weeks per year of service. Most places and laws recommend 1 week per year of service. What you get also depends on the laws of where you live and work.
As per previous layoffs, 2 months + 1week per year. This is only if you are laid off. You will get nothing if your group is sold to some company that pays half the salary..
The VMWare package is not 1 week per year of service? Where are you coming up with that policy from?
You were paid already for doing your job. They're supposed to pay you to stop doing your job as well?
