I'll start, before I left earlier this year, I was a "Software Engineering Manager" L2 and my salary was $136,000 a year with about a $10k bonus. Sounds great but I hired in at $130k over 6 years prior, so three promotions, 6 years and 6k raise. The job I left for is a normal software engineer, $175k with $30k RSUs.

Hilarious. "A nursing home for technology". That says it all, DST operated on 20 year old Technology in 2015, looked at the cost of modernization and sold the Edsel to SSC. The Execs got rich, SSC got the clients they needed and the KC folks got nothing. However, many were too dense or scared to leave, now the ship is sinking in a big way. I truly believe DST existed primarily to serve and enrich the top 20 executives and the board of directors. During my initial training at DST I was taught mutual funds existed to diversify market risk. To prevent large losses. Yes DST invested heavily in Valient stock! And the top 20 executives still got bonuses and pats on the back, it didn't hurt their careers - blame that on the fund manager THEY selected and oversaw. DST is the worst large company that ever existed in Kansas City
Well there is "earned" compensation at DST. Then there is another class of compensation : increased earnings and promotions if you have relations with your Manager. We should limit this conversation to "earned compensation". Selling yourself, however popular, is not a true way to earn an honest living.
Didnt there used to be a CSR designation for the mutual fund reps that actually travelled to the client locations, et with them about statement formats, tax reporting, new enhancements and entertained them with dinners out? Wasn't that a CSR title too?

CSR is a customer service representitive. They talk on the phone and use the cr---y systems to look up stuff for customers (when the systems are up).
What does a csr do? Deal with mutual fund management to run processing?

You know some of the consultants DST used on a 1 year contract were paid $55.00 per hour for Cobol coding! The ones that did data center or security or DBA's got even more! While the Thailand "contractors" got $8.00 per hour!

Senior software engineer, health. Started in 2016 at $120k now I’m up to a whopping $127k. That’s ok, I only work about two hours a day.
Question: I worked at DST for 3 years in aps development and was considered a high performer and given many additional duties. I left for a better paying job. But while at DST my whole time, I was never told what "numeric level" staff member I was. And never told what the "next level" would be if I advanced, or what the future pay scale was. I just knew my job title and my current pay rate of course. Thats all. Is this normal? Or did my Manager just not relay the information to us in the group?
What does a Client Services Specialist do? Is that the same position as the 1990's "Senior Client Services Representive" who assisted mutual funds clients with nightly, tax reporting, conversions/deconversions?

Actually DST was paying you poorly. Some hired "contractors" easily make that at DST on a hourly basis, and they are just coders. DST pays huge hourly fees for contract programmers
In the mid 1980's DST was paying starting programmers 15K per year. No bonus. Experiences programmers recieved 18k to 25K max!
SS&C pays for software engineers are so sh---y you’re guaranteed to be working with imbeciles. The stock options are garbage. What am I going to do with 50 options?
The truth is after 2 years here the best thing to do for career is to walk away for a real software company. This is just a nursing home for technology.
