Main reasons why Broadcom wanted VMware

“I can speculate reasons why Broadcom could want VMware. If they want to move into Software Defined Networking, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), cloud orchestration and build a networking fabric, VMware has some interesting components. They have NSX and they have Velo cloud.
“They’ve got the potential there to make Broadcom more than just a commodity silicon manufacturer, and maybe that’s a play they want to go into. I don’t really know.”

Any thoughts on the main reasons why Broadcom wanted VMware?

The answer is simple. Because they have decent technology in a badly managed business. Broadcom knows how to adjust the engines and then it will be full throttle.
Someone did some real math, lots of forecasts and found that this type of technology should be making much more profit.
There are other technology vendors whose market capitalization dropped drastically and could be appealing, but maybe with their products what they do is just that they can do...

I don't think this guy knows what commodity silicon chips are. :)

A large number of corporate clients with a large investment in virtualized data centers and nowhere else to go that isn't full cloud. These will be captive customers and will feel the full broadcom squeeze.
