On the one hand, I am very anxious when I think of layoffs, because I am not very prepared in case I lose my job. On the other hand, I'm so tired of this company, the amount of work I do and the atmosphere in general that I even think layoff would come in as some form of relief. You?

I recently left Cengage, I was in the same boat as you. Felt stuck, didn’t think I was prepared to find something new, secretly hoped to get let go. But I took a long weekend to get organized, updated my resume, grew my network on LinkedIn, started talking to friends at other companies for advice, and within a couple of weeks I was contacted by a recruiter and was invited to apply for a position and got it, now making 20% more than I was at Cengage with better benefits and bonus potential. Invest a little time in yourself, too much opportunity out there right now to be stuck somewhere the only hope you feel is for severance.
- Get yourself prepared
- Pursue elsewhere with an open mind, because you never know . . .
- Ride the Cengage wave while you pursue #s 1 and 2
What else can you do?
