They aren't going to hire carmen because they want to outsource to a contractor (i.e. TTX, AITX, etc).

I work at UPrr. Things aren’t any better there , short staffed , lots of stress , etc.

Other locations are just as bad as Northtown. At my location, we've lost 18% of our carmen over the last 2 years. And we've been told that BNSF won't be replacing them. We have skeleton crews on the operations side, also. They are so short that we can't get a bad order spot half the time.
Anyone with under 15 years is pretty much looking for a new job, especially since the wage gap is so close now with trade jobs. It's getting pretty ridiculous.

Northtown is so short on crews that they are begging people to take a vacation buy out so they have at least some staffing for the summer months. Northtown mechanical now has less employees than Galesburg mechanical. Ya gotta believe it's just as bad or worse at other locations. When will the house of cards topple? BNSF and the class 1s will be partially to blame when the economy tanks.
