Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Market is very competitive

I have already started looking and it is immediately clear to me that it will not be so easy to find a new job. The companies I took into consideration for my potential new job have significantly slowed down hiring. That is why I think it is better not to wait for severance pay, because if everyone is waiting for severance pay and then start applying for new jobs at the same time, it may become much harder to get it. On the other hand, I really don't feel like forfeiting the severance pay I deserved after so many years here, so I understand how others feel.

I was casually looking around and found a new job outside, even though I love working for VMW but don't have the stamina to go thru wringer, I am planning to leave gracefully and watch the drama from the slide lines

I just joined VMware and started to look for a job again. I can confirm, that job market is not as hot as it was couple month ago . It is even more reasons to start looking now . Especially for those like me , who joined recently.

If you hold a technical role I wouldn’t leave until you are told you aren’t being offered a permanent position if you have decent severance to fall back on. Broadcom annual bonus plus stock package is very good. The RSUs are awarded on a yearly basis and vest quarterly.

Well, I guess it really depends, right? Its been less than a week and I would not expect anyone- no matter how good they might be, to find a new job in a matter of days. That said, I am in agreement. Right now there is a 6 month to 1 year period before this deal goes through. Use that time wisely
