How did Directors fare after the Symantec and CA technologies takeover?
Was there a huge bias to getting rid of them vs normal employees?...

For CA mgmt was definitely reduced (down to 4 levels but back up to 6 now I think after internal merges), sold off a few products/divisions. Cust TechSupport teams drastically reduced 50% is my guess, Customers categorized into 2 groups [Core,Enterprise] (I think those are the terms today, didnt double check as terms changed a while back). Core are import Customers who buy a lot and we speak to, Enterprise get reduced focus/response times/no phone support/etc and that was how they handled reduced TechSupport headcount. I feel sorry for the 1 guy who handles all those Enterprise Customers, he's not kind. On the flip side there's a lot less fire drills these days, I WFH 100%, RSU are almost fully paid out, bonuses are pretty darn good but not guaranteed. I've got lots of time to learn new skills, but direct Mgr in the last 6 months has definitely got a burr on his back...very chilling effect for everyone on my team so something is heading our way. Skip-level Mgmt says no impending change, so who knows. Best to prepare for worst case.
No. It is a fair company. No BS.
Some people feel uncomfortable with the true and this is why they don't like Broadcom. They prefer to be kept in the ignorance and spoon feed, until one day they realize there's no spoon and they are in shock and with no money.
The selection is based on capabilities and need.
Someone may be great with hand painting but if there's no need, there's no place. On the other hand someone may be average on taking photos and there may be a seat available for that. Then a few things can happen: the person improves and becomes good at taking photos; the person actually sucks and someone else will do that job/someone else hired; those photos end up not making money and we move to films and there we go again.
Once in, it is like every business, just that here, if people need a life jacket they are made aware early.
It's better to be laid off at the time of the takeover. BCom like to "encourage" people to leave, then they don't have to pay severance.
It was different for Symantec as the layoffs were handled by NLOK. Having said that, RSUs vested for directors and above, your future title reduced… they were encouraged to leave and most did.
Financially they are doing quite well.... way more RSU's then us mere mortals. The amount of work they do...wtf knows....
The reporting lines were shortened from over 10 levels to, in principle 5, although in practice you might see 6. Managers were all levelled down to 'fit' with Broadcoms levels. This meant directors became managers and VPs became directors etc.
