Signed to the VMware academy back in September, with the recent Broadcom purchase will I still have a job this summer or should I start applying to other companies ASAP?

Yes !! You would be foolish to pursue VMWARE now .
Congrats on graduating. My best advice to you is interview elsewhere as soon as possible. You are taking a risk. Welcome to the real world.
Look for something while the market is still hot, even for recent graduates. New grads are those that lose the most staying. No hope for you here, and you are wasting precious time which would use learning and building your career somewhere else.
if you are in engineering, you may have a job in 1 year when the deal closes.
if you are in sales, marketing, finance, HR or IT, take another job. you'll likely get cut.
