Ex-Schenectady sister facility, GE Silicones (Momentive) in 2010 reaches an agreement with the IUE to reduce hourly rates to "market levels" resulting in over 2/3 of salaries getting cut. That impacted IUE Local votes the contract down but two other IUE Locals covering other unimpacted Momentive employees vote in favor of it.
This has to be wrong, a travesty, right? How can unimpacted unions vote on decreasing another Local's wages. The union and the employees as individuals file grievances, NLRB charges and civil cases. All such cases are resolved in favor the Company. This my little friends is how the sausage is made. GE/Momentive wanted it done and worked with union to pass it. It's a beautiful thing.
I recall from reading at the time that impacted Locals votes were about 300 Y and 400 N and the other two Locals, 125 Y and 0 N. All the impacted membership had to do was 13 Y votes to N and wouldn't have happened, but big lump sums and retro attracted many voters and moved them to Y
Expect NO MAJOR FINDINGS in the Fed investigation of the GE/Local301/IUE relationship. 100% certain no past deals will be reversed. Maybe some personal charges
