You are just a number and nothing more to Octane. He squeezes products dry until no more customers want to pay and he moves on.

I truly feel bad for anyone let go from Broadcom. Broadcom is where careers go to die. Its a collection of the worst , old, crusty, lazy, most mediocre talent in the industry. The company treats you like children, having you come into the office during the pandemic because they know they own you. I cant possibly imagine having to explain being let go from a collection of talentless rest-and-vest farts.

note a "3" isn't guaranteed layoff. i heard there was a target pct, but that pct includes a buffer. depending upon business conditions even a "2" can get cut if the role is not deemed necessary for the business.

the VMW scenario is also at play here. either potential overlaps or assessing how VMW talent can be used. this acquisition is gonna be different than the past 2. yes they'll cut a ton of their people, but Broadcom people will get the ax. a possible scenario....

Holy sh*t, this is happening to me right now (Enterprise div). Started a couple of months ago I think but it's really taken on a new life after I wrapped up another feature for a side project 2 weeks ago. Got my Rank3 feedback last Thurs, I'm now getting assigned "high priority" items on that secondary product that are really BS admin tasks with little actual importance to the product(and nothing to do with my main product). I've known my mgr for 15 years (wasnt always my mgr), he's definitely outside of his normal behavior/tone zone. My main products features/bugs are no longer even being assigned to me come to think of it, and two were reassigned last month. I assumed it was because they wanted me to finish up that other side products feature and release it asap and things were caught up in the bugzone..but below reason is more likely:

Keep a watch on your manager. If he isn't interacting much with you and giving you sh---y work then that's a clear sign. Also if he starts silently assigning your work to others then its a loud bell ringing. And if you are given a rating of 3 for any made up reasons then immediately start looking for a new job

Giving you sh---y and unimportant work and refusing to enable the performance of that work, now having bandwidth to give access rights etc, is a clear sign you're being prepared for a low ranking. The decision has be made months ago by more senior folks and the lower managers will be told to pick someone they get rid of with the minimum impact or easily replace. Then it's just a case of a justification. This is being done every 6 or 12 months depending on demands from higher up.

agree, some smoke signals happening. decisions on "3" already made and submitted. that will be the death list no doubt.

Also if he starts silently assigning your work to others then its a loud bell ringing. And if you are given a rating of 3 for any made up reasons then immediately start looking for a new job, and if you are in software then get your Leetcode game up asap. You will soon find that you will be scheduled to an early morning unusual meeting and then will be given a scripted layoff speech. They generally keep the layoffs below 50 so that California Warn Act also doesn't apply. This is disastrous for people on H1 since they have only 2 months to find a new job and don't get the benefit of Warn Act.

Must be enterprise and symantec. Mainframe needs more and struggling to hire 100 new openings.

HR is already working it and we'll see it ahead of the september vest date. What I overheard was they'll notify in Sept and make effective date following the vest. NA employees will keep their benefits through Sept. Teach them to have calls with the door open.

Agree who cares when, it will happen later in year. Anyone who's getting weird vibes from your manager now....is probably on short list as the mid years are done.

I suspect it will be smaller cuts scattered about, a larger one has got to be in works for 2023 given the pending recession...

I thought they were hoping that one would be gone from being vaccinated or unvaccinated :-)

Why have layoffs? Those cost money. People are leaving so faster that they cannot even backfill. My office has lost about 15% of the staff in the last five months.

Wtf cares…it’s gonna happen. Anyone with half a brain is leaving left/right. Just the desperate remain…
