How does HR decide on pay when changing grades?

I am in Houston, currently JG5. I am applying for internal roles (JG4) and one looks promising after speaking with the manager. Still have to interview, so anything can happen. How will HR decide on the pay for the new role? Do I get stuck at the bottom of the PIR?

Other posters are correct. 8-12% is the “target”. You can exceed that if more than 12% is required to bring you to 80PIR in the new grade. That’s more and more common with how low they’ve been bringing grads in and the total lack of pay raises the past 3+ years. Ask for your new pay before signing the handshake. If it’s below 12% tell them you want 12%. Worst they say is no. There’s a lot of grey space even in their “hard” rules.

8-12% increase with 10% being standard. If you are close to or above 100% PIR you will get 8%. If you are low in PIR you will get 12% to bring you to the bottom of PIR in JG4. This is all outlined in the Global Pay Policy. Search for that in HR online.

I have always received a 10% raise when I progressed.

I got stuck at the bottom (just below 80% PIR) when I went from 5 to 4, but apparently that’s not the same experience for everyone else.
