Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Good managers don't last very long here

The main topic in my store is that SM could leave soon, there are many signs that indicate that. That would be horrible, because this is a person who is very ethical, respects everyone, doesn't play favorites, manages stress effectively, communicates openly, etc. Why can’t such managers last here longer than a few months, while the worst ones stay here almost forever?

So true. The decline of Macys management is so sad. The older veteran associates keep things together as best they can , while young new store executives are clueless and not invested but collecting salaries. Regional folks are no better. Senior Macys management seems to continually devise ways to make the bottom hourly associates do more work while being led by incredibly clueless , poorly trained managers. The best Macys managers do leave as they have are smart, have integrity and other better opportunities present themselves. Macys attracts the lowest quality executive candidates and retains and promotes them because they have so little talent. At some point it seems … this will catch up with the company or maybe not…as the lack of competition lets them survive.

The good experienced managers have left for better jobs. The new kids they are hiring are clueless and lazy.
Not sure what Macy’s strategy is but they don’t seem to understand that the long term employees are the only ones who work and keep the stores going. Once they are through purging the old timers they are in for rude awakening as to who is going to do all the work. The young people stand around and socialize. Management asks the old timers to do the work because they know that’s the only way it gets done.

People that they do manage to hire quickly realize how terrible and unethical Macy’s is to work for and they leave .
In order to keep people there needs to be a drastic purge of corporate management down to the regional managers in order to them purge the terrible store leaders who are running the stores into the ground and covering up all of the problems. Two thirds of the store leaders need to go.
Macy’s is purging from the bottom up but in actuality they need to purge from the top down. That is how you turn a company around.
Hopefully the board of directors will realize this but I am beginning to think it is too late.

Same here. Anytime there is a good and nice manager who knows what they are doing, they are either transferred or they leave and quit. Nice managers never last.
