Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

Why would anyone stay here until the last minute?

I'm talking about those who are marketable, but still waiting until the last moment to be told that they are no longer needed.

Sure, you're a hiring manager. Might want to understand that people getting 'fired' don't get severance. Check the name of this website again.

People who have the confidence to wait for severance knowing they will immediately get another job aren't lacking courage - they're playing the game to maximise money extracted from the company.

Good for them, I say.

UK employees you need to be very careful. As a hiring manager who is currently recruiting Citrix developers, I would never offer a job to someone who lacks the courage to leave a company in trouble like Citrix, or their only plausible excuse is that they'd rather wait to be fired for the severance payment.

Low self-esteem, a likely low performer, no thank you. Stay at Citrix. I don't want you.

UK employee here. The severance package is a definite lure, as indicated by some replies, but only worthwhile if one has worked at Citrix for a few years. Furthermore there is the prospect of further RSUs or equivalent cash - like it or not I'm getting a significant number of RSUs vesting every 6 months for the next couple of years.
As for me, I'm on my way out. I collected my April RSUs and will forgo a greater number in October, but my personal integrity, and my mental health, are worth more than that. And I'm resigned to the fact that my particular role isn't at too great risk from cuts, so can't really hope for the possibility of that severance package.
So, it's a clear decision to me, but I can certainly appreciate that for certain more junior members of my team, the equation looks quite different, and they won't have the same motivation to leave as I do.

Read the definitive prospectus. They have to give the same benefits, including severance, through December 2022. So yes, that is why people are waiting.

Do you know WHY there were HUGE layoffs last calendar year??? To get the payroll and liabilities down so the numbers looked better for the Vista purchase. Do you ACTUALLY think that staying now is going to give you the same payout/buyout that was there last year?? The PE leaders look at one thing, how much cash they can suck out of the operation, nothing else. The likelihood of the fat payout calculations people are posting on this board are gone.....wise up all you 10+ year employees, I guarantee a new years served schedule will be coming out and it will be "industry standard" which translates to a lot less than what you think you're going to get, if you have an offer take it now, don't bet on this windfall being there for you in the second half of this year

2 words: Severance Package.

I understand in the US employees have no rights but in Europe we tend to get 1 mo pay per year at severance. So 12 years service (which I have) is a full years pay.

No way I’m letting the company get away without paying that, by leaving of my own free will. I’ll get a new job in 2-3 mo anyway, I’m sure of it.

JVR was pushed clearly because he had his own opinions and want a drone like JK.

solar winds should have finished his career but he found one place where nobodies can flourish

The exodus hasn't stopped and of course not everyone will leave. 30% attrition is a LOT though and I expect it to continue throughout this year at least. There are many reasons people may stay or delay. Sponsorship, their team, their manager, work life balance. Some are not impacted by the unknown pay structure as they don't rely on equity. With the frozen stock price and RSU grants for the next 2 years known, your comp is pretty much locked in (aside from bonus) while other companies are experiencing a down swing in price. Not saying you wouldn't benefit by leaving because you certainly would regardless of whatever 'competitive' package they put together. Competitive to who? Starbucks? lol. Myself - I'm targeting 2-3x comp and looking forward to several on-sites. Thanks to Dirty JK and the boys for taking me to the F shack and screwing me and the company. I would have never looked without you... sincerely. JVR was 10x better don't know why they pushed that guy out. Very grateful for the ability to rest and vest while prepping/interviewing full time. The lack of strategic focus, projects, and direction allow me to do this pretty much 90% of my time. Good luck to all that stay and leave and I hope the new leadership is able to right the ship because whoever's in charge now is not gonna be in a year's time.

Not everyone has the same deal.

Perhaps it's fear of change. The excuse that they're waiting for the 'big severance pay-off' is a lie. They're either afraid to leave, after a long career of accepting Citrix ELT mediocrity, or they have tried to get hired somewhere else and discovered that their skills are not 'marketable' by today's standards.

Don't judge them. Be empathetic for these sad people. They are suffering in silence.
