NW has become a nursery of talent for other companies. I personally know a few people who have gone to direct competitors where they are now paid more. Interestingly, they also say that they now work even more than they did here but don't complain because they feel more valued there. Is that what NW wants? To actually help competitors by getting rid of the best employees? Incredibly bad management.

I used to report to a lady who claimed to be in NM for over a decade and a half but still a P4. She is clueless about business, only sets up meeting as in a se-y voice says “sweet”, “awesome”, “amazing” etc…
Leads supposedly all new initiatives in NM but if that was really the case then why is she just a P4 after nearly a decade and a half? I know she does lot of brown nosing and is clueless about even any product life insurance company sells. Not even LOMA certified.
Another trend I see is contractors getting hired as P4 and P3, not sure if that’s any good or not.
I’ve only been at NM for a year, so I don’t know anything about an old boy’s club. Seems like the most senior leader who was actually competent just got pushed out (white male), and we literally have to hire/promote as many POC and women as we can. I do know NM has always been mediocre and this latest movement of promote/hire any female or POC regardless of whether they deserve it or not seems like more of the same. Hooray diversity!
Lol did everyone here work at a different northwestern mutual?? It's well known its been an old Boys club for most of its history. Many of us have wished it was more diverse but haven't been involved in recruiting or hiring roles. I won't talk about the latest mandatory diversity push and how that impacted ability to hire qualified candidates vs checking boxes. Or the many challenges women have faced...
I've interviewed with a couple. Better salaries and more flexibility, allowing remote work and open to changing how they work to fit the current state of the world rather than forcing butts back in seats. A couple much more innovative and forward looking, a concept the many middle aged white men in suits are struggling with. Nml continues to prioritize command and control and political hierarchy.
