Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Many years without promotion

When I first started working here, my colleagues at the time were all very ambitious and almost everyone aspired to get promoted. Now I know a lot of people, very capable, who agree to stay here for more than five years without promotion. Why? My advice to everyone is not to agree to this because after a while they might regret wasting their time here.

Nothing will change until Shell gets rid of the sh---y team leads / managers who are below the line every year with their Shell People Survey. Upper management is always protecting toxic a-s licking leads/managers!

P&T JG3 here. $232k TC in a hypothetical "normal year" with both IPF and BPF of 1.

This was fine for a while, but not liking the mostly fixed 100% PIR SG ranges with high inflation.

Wow 250k... really? No wonder Shell lays people off when ever it can.

I make 250+bonus as a JG3 and work about 20-30hours a week. Ive been JG3 for 15 years. Why TF would I leave the gravy train? They are going to have to give me the boot with a healthy package. I have zero ambition to be a JG2 and work my a-s off for minimal extra pay. Life is not worth that. Plus with WFH I can escape the toxic work culture. It's awesome now. Just coast and survive until retirement....almost there...

I have been jg5 for 9 years now. I guess I am not that competitive. Pay has been good + the benefits + wlb. I work in one of the IT groups at Woodcreek.

TC: around 130K.

As a young professional with less than 5 years experience, I can tell you that most of my colleagues have been JG5 for 6+ years. I have came to a conclusion that I am not woke enough to be high flyer, so I am okay to just take my sweet a-s time while browsing for other opportunity elsewhere.

I think it depends on where you are in your career and your personal aspirations. I’d be pi---d if I was stuck as JG5 for 5+ years, but I’m fine with cruising as a JG3 for 5+ years because the level of responsibility and chance of getting laid off dramatically increases at JG2 and above (at least in my line). YMMV

LOTS of reasons to leave Shell, but I don’t understand your 5 year limit for promotion.

These are the questions I ask myself, and not just at Shell:
Where do you expect to top out, and how quickly do you need to get promoted to get there over the course of your career? Are you on pace to get to your goal, or not on pace? If you have a longer interval without a promotion, does that say something about how high you can go, or does it reflect a temporary plateau? And finally, these days, if there was another reorganization tomorrow, do I compete at the next job level?

There is a lot of life outside Shell. Trust me. After 22 years I was more than happy to accept the package and work for a non-toxic company that does not focus on DEI every freaking day. My advice is even if you have 5 years or less, Woke Shell is not the place to be for anyone who has talent or motivation. Shell is a total political animal that sucks the life out of you. Wasn’t always this way, but times have changed.
