I am obviously lucky to have a great manager, because I see that many here are not happy with their managers. Most complain about their incompetence. Precisely in which way are they incompetent? What does incompetent management mean to you?

LOL! I see my post about my good store manager and leaders has been down voted 9 times. My store is not perfect but the store manager jumps in and helps in all aspects as will my immediate manager. There's one who's not worth the salt but I'm certain he's being pressed to do more or move on
My manager don’t show up most of the time and don’t even speak to her team. I mean when she decides to show up we don’t know she there until we hear from someone else. She put her mother as a captain without knowing how to do anything. She literally finds excuses to leave the store. She doesn’t schedule the best workers hours and now we playing catch up with the trucks because we about to have a visit. I mean the people that don’t do a lot get more hours than the hard workers and now the roles reversed before the visit just so she can look good.
I can recall only a few really incompetent managers and most of them were removed from the system within a year or less. Not a lot of geniuses, and not a lot of id--ts, but mainly hard working regular people trying to make a living and doing the right thing. The biggest problem was that many of the best left for more high end stores to enhance their careers.
An incompetent manager is one who has no understanding of how the store functions. They have no idea of the processes involved in maintaining their floor. When someone who has been in management at Macys over 35 years has to ask how to make a sign, you begin to wonder what they've been doing all those years. I know at my store the main expectation of management was to push their sales people into selling credit cards. And that was pretty much it. The competent ones either quit or transferred or worked themselves into poor health trying to cover for all the ones that did nothing. I think there are some good people out there, but I've seen too many people, at least in my district/region, who were promoted because they were young and attractive. I've seen smart, capable. and hard working people constantly passed over for promotion because the store manager didn't want to have to try to find someone to replace them because they were so good at their job. They keep the really competent people at the colleague level so the managers can be as incompetent as they want.
I worked at Macy’s Dadeland mall for several years. One of the managers found an employees credit card on the ground and used it to buy a $2,500 handbag. She got arrested for credit card theft and fraud. That’s all you need to know about the types of managers Macy’s hires.
I don't think they are incompetent. They have had it with upper management and are doing the same thing we are all doing. If upper management don't care, neither do we or our managers.
Whenever I think of Macy, I always think of smart people working for d-mb bosses! Ain’t that the pathetic truth?
“A happy worker is a productive worker!” This is so simple so easy to understand or thinking at any workplace. If Macy’s Inc management at the top does not see it, they are making big mistake how to run the pathetic retail industry! Don’t even try to ask us about what stupid and incompetent management is all about? How low is your stupidity and intelligent level?
ive seen this in every macys.. managers pass the ball to a associates by giving their numbers over the phone which puts that associates in a grey zone. all because they are too lazy to come help the customer.. all managers think they are above customers. ive seen them walk right past them and not even look. they all sit in the break room doing nothing.. when things get busy and out of control they are no where to be found they will not jump in and help.. never once i have ever seen that.. they just hide till the smoke clears. most of them have no clue whats really going on in the dept.. they just read the numbers.. yet they can see with their own eyes the stock room is a mess.. and you cant find anything.. which is lost sales
This post sounds like it comes directly from Jeff trying to figure out what good management looks like. Nice try.
They are getting promoted based on favoritism and the managers they hire are not competent and barely last, most of them quitting. Managers should be hired either with experience working at Macys for a long time or someone who has had experience in management. But Macys is either promoting new hires that someone higher up likes that knows nothing about Macys (favoritism) or they are hiring managers from the outside without any experience. We have very few good managers and the nice and good ones always end up leaving.
I just need a manager that knows how to talk to people and is fair. Most of the managers are rude, don’t know how to talk to people and favor their friends. They don’t know how to talk to people because they have NO experience managing employees.
If you think your boss or manager is stupid and incompetent, remember this we all would not have a job at your Macy’s if he were any smarter!
I feel fortunate to have a fantastic store manager and several excellent leaders in my store.
To be a good manager one must have compassion. They need to put themselves in others shoes. Just because a person can sell doesn't mean they can manage other people. That is why there is management training....Macys promotes people with cruel and evil dispositions. Please send these people to management training for God's sake. Do some kind of psychological testing.
Stupid is a stupid does? Good enough to describe Macy’s style of incompetent management!
Enough said.
