Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Just wait until most retire

Most are still here just because they are close to retirement. Everyone else who has some skills has managed to find something better or is actively looking for other options.
Meanwhile, no one who has any talent, knowledge and work ethic wants to work here. So what's going to happen when those people finally retire? Who will work at UP? That fall will be very painful.

I agree they will cry to the govt but I dont think it will be to specifically contract the work out (contractors dont cost less than RR employees) BUT! They will cry and want the govt to proclaim the rail transport is too important (especially with the ‘supply’ crisis) and the railroad(s) will get a bail out. The bail out money will go to fix everything (and to fund exec perks & bonuses) John & Jane Taxpayer will pay the consequences brought on by PSR.

This is plan. Make it horrible as possible and cry to the federal government they can’t hire or keep people. When the rails are backed up that will be the way to get the unions out and contract the work out.

I know many yard switch men who have to get part time jobs on the side to make ends meet. I’ve been around a long time and haven’t heard of too many railroaders needing part time gigs. The pay is becoming another down side of RR employment unfortunately. I think a 30% raise might start getting guys back to where we need to be. I sure hope we get a win with our contract or it won’t be worth it for much longer.

If you listen to some of the folks on here people are knocking down the door to work for UP. That must be why they have to offer all those signing bonuses

If I didn't have 16 years vested into Railroad retirement I wouldnt stick it out. It's gotten so intolerable for us Grunts on the ground. Push more and more on us, haven't seen a raise in 3 years. So much for "Essential Workers" driving us into the ground.
