Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

A great day for Tech at NM

Finally the leadership got rid of the pharmacy tech folks who basically bamboozled us with the trickery and falsehood of their fancy tricks and the game shows they put on and in the process obfuscated as away from their inability to execute.

Sadly we lost so many leaders who focused on results and truly working with their people including Irina, Srinivas, Cream and Kristy.

I'm confused-- was NS good or no? There seems to be a big divide on this. What did he deliver (or not)? Is IT better off or worse?

Neal can take his WIT and other D&I garbage with him. Promotions need to be based on qualifications not D&I. Are you listening Sangeetha?

You can't say Neal was a good leader, then list a bunch of huge mistakes he made that ultimately left tech on a worst trajectory than when he inherited it. He made enemies out of his peers and made some really bad hiring decisions that he only sometimes began to fix after years of poor performance. He only fired Stig after almost three years (!!!) of awful work and seemingly was going to let Erick ride on training wheels for years to come despite his universal reputation of incompetence.

Sorry, I'm not buying the "NM wasn't ready for his maverick genius." He's clearly smart and charming, but his actual job is to hire good people, fire bad people, and adapt to different cultures in order to build alliances so he can actually execute on his vision. He didn't really do any of those things and paid the price once people started looking past the theatrics.

You guys need to look beyond the cool culture he built for tech and hold him to expectations of doing the actual job of a CIO and setting us up for long term success. Sure, we had fun for a few years, but I'd much rather have had less fun than be in the mess he ultimately created for us.

Here is the deal. Neal was a very good leader - just not a good fi my for NM nobody in SLT would trust a Machiavellian like him. A brilliant but over confident

Irina and Kamal were his best bet on app side and he needed to keep Srinivas — the heat tech leader in a very long time. But he made an fatal error or trusting incompetence with Erick and then other flashy sirens in Phil and Don

The replacement layer is weak. Take Ahmed / he was a PM - Srinivas over elevated him - another mistake before he left because he likes Ahmed. Ahmed is a director not a department head

I agree with Cream and Kristy. Amazing leaders and I worked with Kristy for a long time. I heard Srinivas was a bit of a snake, so not a huge loss. I didn’t know Irina, but heard that both her and cream left because of our CTO’s horrible leadership. It feels like someone is leaving every few months with that guy…

Srinivas was referred to in ICS as the head of the snake, not in a good way. There was happiness when he left!

I don't think a Mutual company should be dabbling in CrytoCurrency either.
But there you go.
