Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Cutting hours and destroying departments

First let’s just comment on how Hy-Vee is being inundated with expensive products that will not sell. In each floral department they have this enormous Easter rabbit that is $250. They have to count that on their inventory along with these candles that are so ridiculously expensive, even the small ones. And I thought Yankee candles were pricy. I don’t know who is doing the buying for floral and other departments but Hy-Vee is not just a big city store. There are rural communities with farmers and blue collar workers, who cannot afford extravagant items like a ceramic basket for $75. Then they wonder why inventory is high and sales are low! No one wants to buy items like that. Then there is the “we love and cherish our employees commercial”, really? There is absolutely no respect for the workers in the stores. The cuts they have been enforcing are causing in-fighting among departments, disdain for the management, and customer service is no longer a priority. Remember the “Smile in every aisle”? Customers are lucky to find an employee that can help. My advice is to scrap Wahlburgers, which is also a bit expensive and not that great! The Market Grille food was always affordable and good! Stop buying and force shipping unsellable items. A good business practice would be to buy for each store and not push items into smaller stores that do not have the “audience” for them. Not many people are going to dump $250 on a 3’ tall rabbit. Why force ship it to stores it definitely will not sell in? Randy commented just recently that they have tried some new things and realize some are not working out. But why punish your employees for the stupid decisions you have made? You want to do a major clean up? Get rid of your buyers for general merchandise, floral, and health market! Find some that will actually treat stores individually. One more thing, it is my belief that Hy-Vee is initiating this drastic cut in hours so people will just up and quit; unfortunately it will be the loyal hard working employees that leave and then you are stuck with the ones who don’t care and work when they feel like it.

Exactly. Almost 25 years here. I enjoy working my a-s of to make money. To have a profitable department. For the bonus checks. For my family. For my bosses family. For my employees family. I do not enjoy working my a-s off to pay for a formula one Indy car, mark Wahlburg, or giant 3 foot tall Easter bunnies.
