Boeing for the 787 wanted their partners to ship them in entire fuselage section that they simply join the sections together and slap some paint on it and call it a Boeing aircraft.
They pulled back some work for the 777X but not enough To be a traditional Boeing aircraft. When most of your in-house engineering is being done in design centers in Moscow I don’t think people who buy your airplane. They certainly didn’t realize that critical key component to the flight management system were being programmed by programmers in India for around $10 an hour.
When people think of Boeing they don’t realize that most of the engineering is being done outside of Washington and most of the airplane is built by suppliers and not Boeing. To people who realize this all the problems they been having is not a surprise.
Now they don’t have the expertise anymore. you don’t learn by outsourcing your work to other companies.
