Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Cutting hours

Current employee here. Our store has been told to drastically cut hours to the point we have a bare bones staff. I'm talking one cashier on the schedule at all times. Less than 50 hours a week combined for dairy and frozen. Aisles Online is getting less than 200 hours (compared to the 475 they were getting a couple of months ago). Wine & Spirits is under 100. Kitchen, deli, meat, bakery are beyond stretched as well.
What gives? If we're this "poor", why are we talking of new stores? Why are corporate officers making 6 figures when we have at least 50 part time people that aren't even on the schedule? Several of the 45 hour a week employees were cut to 40, with no additional compensation to make up for the 7.5 hours they just lost. I don't get it. Corporate greed is one thing, but even the most die hard employees are going to start looking elsewhere if things continue on this path.

That's very interesting about Hy-Vee not having a good Qtr. I can tell you Kroger as well as Wal-Mart had EXCEPTIONAL Qtrs as well as most retail grocery chains had EXCEPTIONAL Qtrs.
What the heck was Hy-Vee not doing to not have a great Qtr????
I can think of a few one is PRICE they think people are loyal and will pay more for products when they can go down the street and get them for Alot less.
Thinking money grows on trees where the spend $$ like nothing.
Concentrating on a Breakfast experience to bring people in???? Its a grocery store not a Breakfast Restaurant.
Get back to your roots and sell groceries at a decent price and your customers will come back.

Current employee as well. I came on to read on the IT situation as that is my major . We have two stores in the town where I am . I think this must be a store by store situation . My friend works at the store on the east side of town and he says the mood is not good , bad month and bad quarter and hours are going to get reduced said some of the long term employees don’t remember numbers so bad . He also said in the last 6 months they have added layers of managers and help all over in areas especially the food parts . I work on the other side of town , our department manager said we had a good quarter I even asked the district guy straight up yesterday if hours were getting cut , he said no we have to be smart and continue to be efficient , keep working hard . Just talking with my friend their are big differences between these stores . he rarely sees the manager or district and I see ours all the time , maybe it’s because it’s a bigger store , not sure.

This isn’t corporate greed. Unfortunately this is the quickest why for HyVee to be profitable again. They didn’t have a strong quarter so know we must cut all hours to make up for it. HyVee CFO is finally telling Randy they must start making money quick otherwise they face bankruptcy. I’m glad the CFO isn’t just going to let HyVee go bankrupt without putting up at fight to get it figured out before they get that far.
