Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

How often do managers at Shell get contacted by employees outside of their group asking about opportunities/joining?

I work in Shell IT (one of the dozens of silos). One thing they keep saying at the townhalls is that if you are interested in an area you should reach out to the manager or team lead who is working in that team. How often do you managers and team leads get such queries from interested people?

My own experience has been lack luster. Send emails, either no response or generic responses.

Manager. I do GTNY calls with people interested in moving into my team or area at least once a month. It is a good way to find out more about an area you are interested in, what you should do to be ready when/if a role opens up, and to get your name out there.

I'm a manager and people contact me to ask about my team frequently. This is how you find your next job.

I’m a manager at Shell. It’s rare for people either within or outside of my discipline to reach out to discuss opportunities to join my team or discipline. I believe the concern is the requestor’s interest in exploring opportunities will get back to the requestor’s line management and the requestor will be “written off” as someone they don’t need to keep happy. In other words, leaving your current team/group is tantamount to leaving Shell as far as the requestor’s line management is concerned. If the line is supportive of one of their own leaving, then I have found the line management itself has conversations with other managers behind the scenes about potential broadening of particular individual contributors.
