Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Are you good at what you do?

If the answer is yes, then you have nothing to worry about. It's as simple as that.

Love this thread.

Agree 100%, if you are good in what you do, there will be many opportunities out there waiting for you, no matter what others say. Go for it!

Broadcom dude here....many "good" people got the shaft at CA and Symantec. Doesn't matter if you're good. Good has nothing to do with it. Now does it mean you. any find another job, of course not. But you might want to start sooner rather than later. We'll cut deeply and swiftly. We have money to make and shares to vest....lmfao.

It's possible to be good at what you do but working in a team that is likely to get the axe. Are you expecting that leadership will try to identify outstanding folks in redundant teams and bring them over? For example let's say you're a rockstar SMTS in Tanzu. You get top marks and 150% of your bonus target every year, but the product you're in is destined to be cut.

Do you really think that leadership is going to try to pull you out to go work on a core product that will stick around? Or let's say you're great at what you do but you're in IT or Finance. I personally wouldn't pin all my hopes on my individual performance if I have a feeling my entire group is being targeted.

The thing about layoffs is that it's a shotg-n approach to firing. You're going to have some collateral damage but at least the top performers should have the least amount of trouble finding a new job. However if I'm a top performer I'm not going to be in a wait-and-see mode, I'm going to use this as the catalyst to determine my own value in the market and go see what else I can find.

Some of you like to overcomplicate things when there's no need.
