I would love to give some advice to people at VMW, but I can't think of a better advice than to start looking for something else right away?
Those who do not lose their jobs in this whole process will probably soon realize that Broadcom is the company from which the most talented are leaving en masse.

I agree. Look for what you want from an employer. Some want the truth and a competitive package. Others prefer dream selling, donuts and the promise of a better future.
Broadcom will let things as clear as they can be, but many will hear what they want to hear.
Put yourself first and think about everything YOU want out of your career and employer.
Look for a better offer elsewhere. If you find something and it's possible press for a layoff., otherwise just leave
Only stay if your circumstances dictate that it. You may have family to support etc. If you do stay understand that you're only there for the money (specifically RSUs).
