Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Stopping this deal

Is there a way for employees to resist this deal. Are there any govt provisions as it will cause mass layoff and its an impact to US and state economy.
All the executives preach that its all good and what not. At the end, they walk with millions of golden parachutes, while the rest of the employees get laid off with 1week of severance per year. How can they survive given that there will be no jobs outside? Unemployment income will not even cut 1/4th expense living in CA.
Not the mention the folks on Visa, their life is shattered. They just have to packup and leave the country. What a shame on vmware executives especially Michael Dell. Just for his benefit he is going to destroy the lives of 20k+ people.

If you are in a socialist democracy ( scandinavia or europe) you may get what you wish for. Not here in capitalist USA. 🤑

I would not pay any attention at this point to what the execs say. Just assume the worst and take charge of your own path. Go find another opportunity. VMW is a legacy technology company and innovation there has long been dormant. You will find a better opportunity but nobody is going to do it for you. You have to do it yourself. Good luck.

"So many 10+ years folks"

Yeah. Because a lot of us are veterans from other large enterprise tech firms with nasty, toxic environments. It was nice working somewhere that treated employees decently. Who doesn't like that?

So many 10+ years folks here. Vmw compensation isn’t great. Why do they stay here for so long? Too comfortable to try anything new and different? Maybe that’s why there is such angst. It’s not like this is the most stable company, regular layoff has been Vmw feature for years

I know. It sucks. This will be job no.8 or 9 for me. That's tech for you. VMware was the best place Ive worked for. Broadcom is probably going to aquire an empty shell because anyone paying attention knows there is a huge cultural clash and will seek other forms of employment. Yours truly included.

Welcome to corporate America in which at any point you can lose your job. Vmware does layoffs every year or used too this would be no different

Sigh. This is getting redundant by now. Have some courage and dust off your resume. It will take 12 months to close this deal and one can find a job within that time. Even in the great recession of 2008, firms started hiring within 8-9months. This looks like was written by a H1B holder who is afraid of change.

Tech is brutal and change is par for the course. There are many firms that are still hiring. Upskill yourself and leave the cr---y Vsphere/Vcenter stuff behind. The world has long moved onto the cloud and other cutting edge technologies.

can a class action lawsuit be possible? This acquisition affects the mental health and livelihood of many employees.
